Movers carrying furniture during a house move in East Auckland

East Auckland is two halves, and most movers only quote for one

The Tāmaki Estuary splits this part of the city in two, and the difference matters more than any suburb boundary.

West of the estuary you have the Eastern Bays and the Tāmaki suburbs: Mission Bay, Kohimarama, St Heliers, Glendowie, Ōrākei, Meadowbank, St Johns, Glen Innes, Point England, Panmure, Stonefields and Mount Wellington. Older housing, sloping clifftop sections, narrow bay-front streets, and a lot of steps.

East of it is the Howick ward: Pakuranga, Howick, Botany, Flat Bush, East Tāmaki and out to Whitford, Beachlands and Maraetai. Newer, flatter, better vehicle access, and currently threaded with roadworks.

Most East Auckland movers write their page about one half and hope the other half books anyway. If you are searching for movers East Auckland side and your job crosses the estuary, that gap is exactly what costs you time on the day. Below is what actually changes between the two halves, and what we plan around in each.

Multi-lane arterial road under construction, as on the Eastern Busway route through Pakuranga

The Eastern Busway: live roadworks until late 2027

If your move touches Panmure, Pakuranga, Burswood, Botany Downs or Botany, this is the single biggest variable in your day and almost nobody mentions it.

The Eastern Busway, formerly AMETI, runs along Pakuranga Road and Tī Rākau Drive, connecting Panmure through Pakuranga to Botany. The Panmure to Pakuranga section opened in December 2021 and the Rā Hihi flyover over Tī Rākau Drive opened in October 2025.

The part that matters right now: construction on the final 5 km section, from Tī Rākau Drive to Botany Town Centre, began on 24 July 2026 and is due to finish in late 2027. Four new stations, twelve kilometres of new walking and cycleways, and a working construction corridor through the middle of East Auckland the whole time.

In practice that means shifting lane layouts, changed intersections and slower running along the main east–west route. We check the current arrangement before a Pakuranga or Botany job rather than trusting a map, and we build the start time around it. It is the difference between a clean run and an hour of truck time you are paying for.

Coastal homes on a steep slope above the water, typical Eastern Bays access with steps down from the road

Crossing the estuary

The other structural fact about East Auckland: getting between the two halves means crossing the Tāmaki Estuary, and there are not many ways to do it.

The Panmure Bridge carries most of it, with a dedicated busway bridge now alongside. That makes the Panmure–Pakuranga corridor a genuine pinch point at peak, and it is the reason a Glendowie to Howick move, which looks like nothing on a map, can take far longer than the distance suggests.

If your move crosses the water, we start early or we work around the peaks. If it stays on one side, we have more flexibility with the timing. Tell us both addresses when you enquire and we will tell you which one you are.

Movers East Auckland wide: every suburb we cover

The Eastern Bays: Mission Bay, Kohimarama, St Heliers and Glendowie

Some of the most expensive property in New Zealand, on some of the least truck-friendly streets. Sections slope steeply down toward the water, so a great many homes sit well below the road with long flights of steps to the front door. Bay-front streets are narrow with kerbside parking pressure, especially in summer. Contents tend to be high value, which is where our packing service earns its place rather than being an upsell.

Ōrākei (Orakei), Meadowbank and St Johns

Established, leafy, generally better vehicle access than the bays proper, with a mix of older bungalows and newer builds. Ōrākei has its share of steep sections down toward the basin. Standard driveway access in most of Meadowbank and St Johns.

Glen Innes, Point England and Panmure

Considerable redevelopment over recent years, so a mix of original state-era housing and new terraced builds side by side on the same street. The new developments bring shared driveways and body corporate rules; the older stock brings long drives to rear sections. Panmure sits right at the busway corridor and the bridge, so timing matters here more than most.

Stonefields and Mount Wellington

Stonefields is built into a former quarry, which shows: steep internal streets, narrow shared lanes, tightly packed terraced and semi-detached homes and limited on-street parking. It is one of the trickiest truck access areas in the east despite being modern, and it is handled by the same multi-unit crews who work Flat Bush. Mount Wellington around it is more conventional, with Sylvia Park and the industrial fringe adding commercial work.

Pakuranga, Pakuranga Heights, Sunnyhills, Farm Cove and Highland Park

Classic post-war East Auckland: solid brick-and-tile homes on decent sections with real driveways. Access is generally the easiest part of the job here. The complication is the busway works along Pakuranga Road, which is the artery that serves all of them.

Half Moon Bay, Bucklands Beach, Eastern Beach and Mellons Bay

The peninsula. Bucklands Beach narrows as you go north, with waterfront homes on tight sections and some long stepped access down to the water. Half Moon Bay has the ferry and its own marina traffic. Being a peninsula, there is effectively one road in and out, which is worth knowing when you choose a start time.

Howick, Cockle Bay, Shelly Park and Mellons Bay

Howick village has narrow older streets and timed parking around the shops, which behaves more like a town centre than a suburb. The surrounding bays slope toward the water with stepped access to a fair number of homes. A mix of original 1960s housing and substantial rebuilds.

Botany Downs, Golflands, Northpark, Dannemora, Meadowlands, Somerville, Point View and Burswood

The Botany belt. Wide streets, good driveways, generous sections and straightforward truck access, which makes these among the more predictable jobs in Auckland. Burswood and the Botany end sit directly in the busway construction corridor, so route and timing get checked before the day.

Flat Bush, Ormiston, Chapel Downs, Mission Heights and Donegal Park

One of the largest greenfield developments in New Zealand, and still growing. Overwhelmingly terraced and duplex housing on private ways. Expect shared lanes with no turning circle, visitor-parking-only rules, three-storey homes with no lift, body corporate requirements, and newly laid berms that will not carry a loaded truck. Our apartment and multi-unit crews handle these most weeks. Measure your stairwell if you own a large sofa or a king bed base, because three-storey terraces are where those get stuck.

East Tāmaki (East Tamaki) and East Tāmaki Heights

Largely industrial and commercial, and where a good share of our office and warehouse relocations happen. Loading docks, after-hours access and security sign-in are the usual considerations rather than driveways. Also see commercial delivery.

Whitford, Beachlands, Maraetai, Clevedon and Brookby

The rural east. Lifestyle blocks, long unsealed driveways, gates, and a genuine distance from everything. Beachlands and Maraetai are reached via Whitford on a single main road, so an early start is not optional. Long gravel drives sometimes need a smaller vehicle, so tell us the surface and the length when you book.

Everywhere else in the east

Clover Park, Ellerslie, Tāmaki, Wai O Taiki Bay, Glen Innes’ surrounding pockets, Cockle Bay’s outer streets, Redoubt-side Flat Bush and out to the Clevedon boundary. If it is east of the city, we cover it.

What we move

  • Full house moves. Anywhere in the east, across Auckland, or out of the region.
  • Terraced housing and multi-unit. Flat Bush, Ormiston, Stonefields, Glen Innes. Shared lanes, three-storey stairs, body corporate coordination.
  • Clifftop and stepped-access homes. The Eastern Bays speciality. More people, more time, planned in advance.
  • Part loads and small moves. A flat, a room, a garage. A smaller load means a smaller truck and a smaller number.
  • Offices, warehouses and commercial. East Tāmaki, Highbrook and Mount Wellington. See office movers Auckland.
  • Heavy and awkward. Pianos, safes, spa pools, whiteware. Flag it early, particularly with steps or a shared lane involved.
  • Downsizing. Common in Howick, Bucklands Beach and the bays. Paced properly through our seniors moving service.

What is included

Two experienced movers and a truck sized to the access as well as the load
Furniture blankets, straps, trolleys and floor protection
Dismantle and reassemble of standard furniture
Loading, transport and unloading into the rooms you want
$110/hr for two movers and a truck, plus a $50 flat callout, no minimum hours

Optional: full or partial packing with materials supplied. On a stepped-access property this is often the best money you will spend, because a properly packed house loads far faster and the carry is where the time goes.

How it works

1
Tell us both addresses and what you have

including whether your job crosses the estuary and whether it runs through the busway corridor.

3
We quote

usually within 15 minutes in business hours, with access and timing factored into the hours rather than discovered on the day.

4
We move you

$110 per hour for two movers and a truck, plus a $50 flat callout, with no minimum hours. Access decides the total more than distance does. A Botany Downs home with a double driveway and a St Heliers house forty steps below the road are genuinely different jobs, so give us the access details and the estimate will be close.

Possibly, if you are in or near Panmure, Pakuranga, Burswood, Botany Downs or Botany. Construction on the final section between Tī Rākau Drive and Botany started in July 2026 and runs to late 2027, so lane layouts and intersections along Pakuranga Road and Tī Rākau Drive change as work progresses. We check the current arrangement before the day.

Yes, and it is a good part of what we do in the bays. It takes longer than a flat property and we bring more people, so tell us roughly how many steps there are and whether there is any vehicle access at the lower level. A photo from the street answers it in seconds and keeps the quote honest.

Whether a truck is allowed on the shared lane and where it can stand, any body corporate requirements such as floor protection or restricted hours, and whether the berm is newly laid, because soft ground will not carry a loaded truck. Measure your stairwell too if you own a large sofa or a king bed base.

Yes, all of it. Mission Bay, Kohimarama, St Heliers, Glendowie, Ōrākei, Meadowbank, St Johns, Glen Innes, Point England, Panmure, Stonefields and Mount Wellington are as much East Auckland as Howick and Pakuranga, and we work both sides of the estuary constantly.

Yes. Those are reached via Whitford on essentially one main road, so we start early and allow for the run. Long unsealed driveways are common out there and sometimes need a smaller vehicle, so mention the surface when you book.

Yes, seven days a week from 7am to 7pm. Weekends and month-end are busiest, so book earlier for a Saturday or the last Friday of the month.
