What Is a WINZ Moving Quote?
A WINZ moving quote is an itemised cost estimate from a registered Work and Income supplier that you submit to your case manager to get help paying for your move. It lists the movers, truck, hours, call-out and any extras like stairs, so WINZ can approve funding and pay the mover directly. Here’s what Work and Income can put towards it:
Moving Costs Grant - up to $1,500
The main help for moving into a rental. Income and asset tested, available up to twice in 12 months, and recoverable, you repay Work and Income over time through small deductions. You don’t need to be on a benefit to qualify.
Transition to Alternative Housing Grant - $3,000
Moving voluntarily out of public housing into a private rental, as agreed with Work and Income and your housing provider? This one-off grant doesn’t have to be paid back.
Relocate for Work Support Moving for a new job?
Work and Income may cover travel and moving costs.

Every WINZ quote includes: two professional movers, a fully equipped 22m³ truck, loading and unloading, moving blankets, trolleys, careful handling of fragile items, basic dismantling and reassembly, and placement into the right rooms.
Packing and boxes are available on request and itemised as their own line - handy, because Work and Income can often fund packing separately if you can't do it yourself.
